BOISE, Idaho — A Nampa man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly rolling back the odometer of a vehicle and selling it.

The Nampa Police Department(NPD) said officers arrested 20-year-old Hamit Kaan Tekel on a search warrant at a home on East Syracuse Street in Nampa. He was taken into custody without incident.

NPD said their Nampa Police Property Crimes Unit received a tip that Tekel allegedly rolled back a vehicle's odometer by more than 65,000 miles and sold it on Facebook Marketplace at a higher price. Police worked with the Idaho Transporation Department and looked into the vehicle's history from its V.I.N., and the search warrant was obtained.

Police said while officers were searching the home, they found another vehicle with an altered odometer.

The Nampa Police Department said that before buying a car, they recommend searching the car's history on CarFax or other similar sites so that you are not the victim of a scam.
