POCATELLO, Idaho — A Pocatello man was sentenced to federal prison on Tuesday for sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child pornography after investigators found hundreds of pieces of evidence, including videos of him raping a handicapped child.
Hector Aguayo, 31, will serve 530 months - 44 years and two months - in prison. He also received 15 years of supervision following the completion of the prison term and was required by Chief U.S. District Judge David C. Nye to register as a sex offender in the state of Idaho.
Aguayo pleaded guilty to the crimes on May 4.
According to U.S. Attorney's Office, law enforcement confiscated Aguayo's iPad after a concerned citizen reported to law enforcement that it contained child pornography.
Following a search of the iPad, investigators discovered 550 photos and 198 videos of child pornography. Among the seized material were videos of Aguayo raping a prepubescent handicapped child, which he uploaded and distributed on the internet.
"This sentence shows our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of our society, our children," said U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit. "Disabled children especially need our protection, and I am proud of our law enforcement partners whose tireless efforts led to a successful prosecution."
Among the law enforcement agencies involved were Homeland Security Investigations in Idaho Falls, Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, Idaho Falls Police Department, Bonneville County Sheriff's Office and Pocatello Police Department.
"HSI special agents won't ever relent when it comes to protecting children and arresting individuals who prey on our most vulnerable," said Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Robert Hammer, who oversees HSI operations in the Pacific Northwest. "Child sex abuse is one of the most serious crimes HSI investigates due to the lasting psychological and physical damage it can inflict on victims. We are proud to work closely with our law enforcement partners to make communities safer."
