CALDWELL, Idaho — A man was arrested after he led police on a chase and a standoff Thursday evening in Caldwell.
The Caldwell Police Department (CPD) said around 6 p.m., officers with their Operation Safe Streets tried to arrest 32-year-old Fernando Juarez on drug and weapon charges. Officers found Juarez in a parking lot near Franklin Road and Pearl Steet, and when he was told he was under arrest, he fled.
During the chase, police said they used "stop sticks" to stop Juarez and punctured his vehicle's tires.
"Despite this, Juarez continued to drive on his rims, reaching speeds of around 50 miles per hour, and continued to endanger the community," police said in a news release.
CPD said Juarez continued to evade officers and drove through Indiana, Ustick, Montana, and Karcher roads. The chase ended with a PIT (precision immobilization technique) maneuver on South Indiana Avenue south of Karcher Road, and Juarez's vehicle stopped in an irrigation ditch.
After a brief standoff with police, Juarez was arrested, CPD said. A gun was found in his waistband, and drugs were also found.
Police said nobody was injured in the incident.
