EAGLE - A Boise man is behind bars accused of a violent crime spree in Eagle early Tuesday morning, which included breaking into two homes, stealing a car, spinning donuts in a yard, throwing a railroad tie through the window of a home, and then attacking an officer with a tree branch.
Eagle Police used a Taser to take down 38-year-old Wesley R. Williams, who investigators say was wielding an 8-foot-long tree branch at the time of his arrest.
The incident began around 2 a.m. Tuesday when dispatchers got a call that a man had broken into a home on the 600 block of North Parkinson Street. While officers were on their way to the home, a neighbor called dispatch to report that the man was trying to break into their home.
When officers arrived, they said Williams was using the large tree branch to knock on the door of a third home.
One of the officers repeatedly told Williams to drop the branch, and tased him as he walked toward the officer, raising the branch over his head, police said.
Investigators believe the chain of events started when Williams broke into the first home, waking up the person who lives there. That person grabbed their handgun and yelled at Williams to leave, which he did.
According to police, Williams went across the street, kicked in the front door of another home, took keys from inside, and stole a Jeep. He then went back to the first house where he again tried to break into the home before throwing a railroad tie through a window.
Officers say Williams got back in the stolen Jeep and drove to another nearby home where he spun several "donuts" in the yard, tearing up the grass. He then got out, grabbed the branch and tried to get into that home.
That's when police arrived and arrested Williams, who was acting erratically and had to be strapped to a gurney before being taken to a local hospital for a medical exam.
He was booked into the Ada County Jail at about 5 a.m. on felony counts of burglary, malicious injury to property, and grand theft. He is also charged with a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
Investigators say they're still trying to figure out why Williams went on the crime spree. They noted that he does not appear to have any connection to anyone who lives in the three different homes. Anyone with information is asked to call Ada County dispatch at 377-6790.
