BOISE, Idaho — The Boise Police Department (BPD) identified three juvenile suspects in the Union Block Building fire arson investigation on Tuesday.
Boise Police said the charges had been forwarded to the juvenile prosecutor for review. Because the suspects were underage, their identities have not been released to the public.
"Fire investigators determined the cause of the fires to be arson and Boise Police detectives took over the investigation," police said in a news release. "Possible charges against the juveniles include arson and burglary."
The fire occurred on Oct. 12. Around 5:15 p.m., BPD officers and Boise Fire crews responded to a report of smoke coming from the basement of the Union Block Building. Police said nearby businesses were briefly evacuated to allow first responders to investigate.
Police said firefighters found a dozen small fires on the first floor, which was quickly put out.
On Oct. 14, a spokesperson from the Boise Police Department (BPD) told KTVB in an email, "At this time, the cause of the fire is being considered a possible arson, and the investigation is ongoing."
It was also revealed that some items, including the old kitchen and office supplies, were on fire.
Police said no one was in the building at the time of the fire, and there was minor damage.
The Union Block building has been vacant since November of 2023 due to safety reasons.
