CALDWELL -- A Nampa man is in jail after police say he burglarized an apartment and attacked a man with a knife.

The break-in happened Friday morning at an apartment complex in Caldwell. A couple who lives in the apartment told police they came home at about 9:50 a.m. to find their door kicked in and an unknown man inside. When the male resident tried to grab the burglar, the suspect pulled out a knife and attempted to stab the other man, police say.

The resident of the apartment was cut on the chin as he struggled with the intruder, later identified as 20-year-old Jordan Dewaine Jones of Nampa. The victims say Jones broke away from the other man and ran. The resident chased after him, and said at one point Jones broke out the front window and tried to kick in the door of another home before running east through the complex.

The residents called 911, and Caldwell police officers responded to find the victims' bedroom ransacked, with drawers emptied, belongings strewn around the room and the residents' flatscreen TV lying in the hallway. Police also found the knife used in the attack, the blade of which had broken during the struggle. A pink Ruger .22 rifle and a box of ammunition were missing, the victims reported.

Caldwell Police Detective Sgt. Damon Rice found shoe prints that appeared to be left behind by the intruder. As he photographed and followed the prints, he spotted Jones - who matched a description of the burglar - crouched down behind a car in the parking lot. Jones was throwing items beneath the car, police say.

Jones was detained and arrested after the residents of the apartment identified him as the intruder. Jones originally gave his name as "Jordon Freeman," but officers later discovered his true identity and found that he had two outstanding warrants out for his arrest, police say.

Police say Jones had a 10-inch knife in his waistband and two other folding knives in his pockets. The suspect also had construction tools and an airsoft gun hidden down his pant leg, and officers found another long knife beneath the car Jones had been hiding next to, according to court documents.

Jones has been charged with burglary, grand theft, aggravated battery, malicious injury to property, possession of a concealed weapon and burglary tools and providing false information to law enforcement.

He was booked into the Canyon County Jail and is being held on a $50,000 bond. Jones is due to appear in court Oct. 8.
