BOISE, Idaho — The Boise Police Department is asking the public for information on a reported kidnapping involving a young girl on South Curtis Road on Monday, May 6.
Police on Thursday said the girl was playing outside an apartment complex when the man asked her to get in his car so he could take her to her mom.
The girl refused, according to the report to police. The man then placed the girl in his car and drove away with her, but then turned around and dropped her back off at the apartment complex.
The incident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. Monday, and police were notified by the girl's family Tuesday morning.
BPD said the girl was not hurt in the attempted kidnapping and she is receiving services and support with her family.
The suspect is described as a mostly bald black man with short black hair on the sides and back of his head. He also had a mustache, two large front teeth and wore sunglasses, Thursday's news release said.
The vehicle in the incident is described as a small black sedan or passenger car. Boise Police said its gathered video evidence from near the 500 block of South Curtis Road and officers have conducted multiple interviews.
Police said there have been two other reports of child enticement in the area in recent months. A man reportedly asked two children to help him at another apartment complex on the 5800 block of West Kootenai Lane on March 17.
The suspect may have been a middle eastern man with darker skin and darker hair. According to Boise Police, he may have been associated with a white van seen in the area. The man left after the children ran away.
Another report came from the apartment complex on Curtis Road on Dec. 12, 2023. Police said a suspect asked two girls to come sit in his car after rolling down his windows, but left after the girls did not comply. The vehicle is described as a gray or darker gray older model sedan with tinted windows.
The suspect in the December report is described as a black man in his 20s or 30s, with a clean shaven face, BPD said. The man was wearing a dark-colored baseball style cap and spoke in broken English with an accent.
"Boise Police did surveillance in the area during school bus drop off times, which is when the incident occurred, and could not locate a similar-looking vehicle or any other leads," Thursday's news release said.
Anyone with information about the three incidents is asked to call Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790. If similar suspicious behavior is seen, detectives urge the public to call 911.
The Boise Police Department encourages parents to talk with children about strangers and who they may talk to or go with. Kids should also be taught safe places to go, especially along routes to and from school.
