IDAHO FALLS -- Eastern Idaho authorities say a Bonneville County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man when the man pointed a rifle at the deputy.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office tells the Post Register that the shooting occurred late Monday after the man fled from police but crashed into a concrete foundation.
Police say the man emerged with a rifle and pointed it at the deputy, then refused the deputy's commands to drop the weapon.
Authorities say the deputy fired an undisclosed number of rounds.
The suspect has been identified as Tyrell J. Larsen, 31, of Jefferson County.
Larsen has a criminal history of traffic and drug violations.
The deputy wasn't injured.
Bonneville County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Jeff Edwards says the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is conducting the investigation.
