BOISE - A local property management owner has been charged with 19 counts of grand theft, the Ada County Prosecutor's Office said.

Brandon Curtiss, 43, of Payette was booked into the Ada County Jail on Tuesday.

According to the prosecutor's office, Curtiss is accused of refusing to release rent money back to property owners after collecting payments on their behalf through his businesses Curtiss Property Management Company and Liberty Property Management Company.

The complaint alleges that Curtiss withheld about $87,000 in rent rent payment from 19 clients between 2013 and 2016.

KTVB reported in May 2016 that Idaho State Police was investigating Curtiss after receiving several complaints, the bulk of which were from his clients who said he owed them money.

At the time, Curtiss - who was then the president of the group 3% of Idaho - said those claims were absolutely untrue.

"We keep copies of everything, we don't withhold rents from our owners," Curtiss said.

Curtiss is being held on $150,000 bond, and he faces a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison on each of the 19 counts of grand theft.
