Rupert student charged with making threats to shoot classmates at East Minico Middle School

RUPERT, Idaho — A 13-year-old student at East Minico Middle School in Rupert is being charged with threatening to shoot classmates, according to the Rupert Police Department. 

The threats were were made in a chat on Instagram on Aug. 29 and the police were notified the next day, according to officials.  

Additional law enforcement officers were dispatched to every school in Minidoka County, with a particular emphasis on East Minico to monitor the situation. 

Officers identified the student who made the threat and the case was passed on to the Minidoka County Prosecutor. 

The student will be charged with Threatening Violence on School Grounds, according to police. 

The identity of the student has not been released.
