EMMETT -- A man who set fire to a pair of Gem County churches almost two years ago has been convicted of first-degree arson.

Prosecutors say Bradley Ryan Thomasson started the fires in an attempt to cover up break-ins. An accomplice in the arsons, William Dorahush, pleaded guilty in December 2013 and is currently serving a 25-year sentence.

In addition to the two arson charges, Thomasson was also convicted of two counts of burglary, grand theft and theft.

He and Dorahush started the fires at the First Baptist and Community Bible Church in the early morning of April 27 after taking several items from inside the buildings.

Thomasson is set for sentencing May 26. However, he was on parole for killing his adoptive parents when he set the fires, and was sent back to prison after his arrest to continue serving out a life sentence.
