Eagle Police warn public of thieves breaking into West Ada homes

The Eagle Police Department said break-ins happened over a couple of days. A group of thieves watched the homes from a field and waited until the homeowners left.

BOISE, Idaho — Eagle police issued a warning to the public about a recent string of burglaries that have taken place in West Ada homes with fields behind them.

The Eagle Police Department (EPD) said they are investigating three home break-ins that took place from Dec. 6 to 9, where thieves broke back windows or glass doors and stole jewelry and money. Police said they are targeting homes with an open field space where they can lie and wait until homeowners leave.

The police reported three break-ins in Eagle/West Ada: one at Eagle Island Park, another at Lake Hazel Maple Grove Road neighborhood, and a third at Beacon Light and Edgewood Roads neighborhood.

EPD recommends residents who have an open field behind them consider buying cameras and lights to deter thieves. They also said those who have a security system to install glass alarms.

There is no evidence that thieves are avoiding homes with dogs, police said.

Police mentioned this time last year, there were similar break-ins, and they believe the same group is responsible. Also, there has been a crime trend happening across the nation, but it's unclear if there is a connection.

For residents who have been affected, have information about the break-ins, or see anything suspicious call the Ada County Dispatch at (208) 377-6790.
