PARK CITY, Utah -- Ex-Olympian Picabo Street is headed for an April trial on misdemeanor domestic violence charges in Utah after her lawyer pushed for a quick day in court that he says will exonerate the gold-medal skier.
Attorney Joe Wrona asked Tuesday that Street be tried by a judge rather than a jury so the case could be heard more quickly.
He says Street cares for her elderly parents and was defending herself from her combative father when she pushed the 76-year-old man down stairs and locked him in a basement.
Prosecutors, though, say Street was the aggressor in the Dec. 23 fight that left Roland Street with cuts to his neck and elbow.
Prosecutor Robert Hilder says Street turned down a plea deal that would have wiped her record clean if she met certain conditions.
Picabo Street attended the hearing but did not speak.
