Two women have been arrested and face charges of first-degree murder in connection to a homicide last week at Martin Landing campground in Canyon County.

Melissa Fay Calumpit, 35, and Rosalie Lynn Morris, 59, were arrested Thursday and have been booked in the Canyon County Jail, according to a news release from the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office. Both women hail from Battle Mountain, Nevada, a community in the northern part of the state between Winnemucca and Elko on Highway 80, the sheriff’s office said.

They are scheduled to be arraigned Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Canyon County Courthouse. They’ll face charges of first-degree murder following the July 12 homicide of Travis Haywood Calumpit at Martin Landing, a camping and recreation area located at the confluence of the Snake and Boise rivers near Parma.

According to a previous news release from the sheriff’s office, dispatch received a report of a man who was unconscious and not breathing at Martin Landing at about 9:30 p.m. on July 12.

When deputies arrived, they located a male subject who was deceased. The CCSO crime lab and detectives responded to the scene and, based on the circumstances and evidence collected, the sheriff’s office ruled it a homicide.

The original release said the victim was approximately 40 years old, and a coroner’s report earlier this week revealed that it was the 37-year-old Calumpit. The coroner said that Calumpit was a Parma native, who died from a gunshot wound.

The sheriff’s office declined comment on the women’s connections to the victim.
