Two women in South Carolina escape jail through ceiling, steal car, then get caught again, say officials

The two women created an "exit point" in the ceiling of their dorm.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Two women escaped from Richland County jail on Wednesday but are now back behind bars. 

According to officials, the two women, Alyssa Putman, 22, who was in jail on a shoplifting charge and Tayrean Brechbill, 41, was on a hold from Broward County, Florida, but not clear what her charges were, created an "exit point" in the ceiling of their dorm where a tile was missing.

After escaping the jail, the two women stole a contractor vehicle on the Alvin S. Glenn grounds.

The women were captured before they were able to escape the grounds, according to officials, in less than five minutes.
