The U.S. Supreme Court is seen, Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, in Washington.

BOISE, Idaho — Update: As of 11 a.m. on Wednesday, an hour after the scheduled execution for Thomas Creech, Idaho Department of Corrections announced that they were unable to proceed with the execution due to an inability to find a vein for the IV for the lethal injection.

The U.S. Supreme Court has denied several motions from Thomas Creech's defense team, trying to get his execution delayed or stopped completely.

At 8 a.m., just two hours before the scheduled execution, Justice Kagan denied the stay of execution.

This means the State of Idaho will be executing Thomas Creech, Idaho's longest standing death row inmate. Creech is on death row for the 1981 prison beating and death of David Jensen.

He's convicted of killing 4 others in the 1970s. He was originally sentenced to death for the 1974 murders of two house painters near Donnelly, however that sentence was altered due to the federal government changing automatic death sentence charges.

Wednesday's execution will be witnessed by members of the media and Creech's family. The victim, Jensen, will not have family present.

Idaho Department of Corrections state that Idaho's governor will send representation, and Attorney General Raul Labrador will be present.

At 11 a.m. on Wednesday, an hour after Creech's scheduled execution, Idaho Department of Corrections (IDOC) reported that the execution attempt had failed, as the medical team was unable to find a vein for the lethal injection.
