President Donald Trump has issued a disaster declaration for north-central Idaho after flooding hit that part of the state hard earlier this year.
The declaration came after Idaho Gov. Brad Little petitioned the White House for the official disaster status.
Idaho's U.S. Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch and U.S. Representative Russ Fulcher backed the declaration, the lawmakers said in a release.
"Areas throughout north central Idaho have suffered millions of dollars in damage to homes, public lands, property and businesses in the wake of extensive flooding in the region," said Crapo, Risch and Fulcher. "We sincerely appreciate President Trump and his Administration's swift approval of Idaho's request for a federal disaster declaration. This declaration will help existing on-the-ground efforts by state and local agencies continue to provide vital assistance to the affected communities recovering from this tragedy."
Heavy rainfall during the week of April 7-13, 2019 caused significant flooding in Adams, Idaho, Latah, Lewis and Valley Counties and the Nez Perce Reservation. The high water washed out roads, triggered landslides and damaged homes and property throughout the region.
The disaster declaration will free up additional federal funds to help cover repair efforts.
