9,180 graduating seniors set to receive Idaho LAUNCH awards

Idaho Gov. Brad Little said the funding helps students continue their education and pursue in-demand careers. Health occupations is the top program among awardees.

BOISE, Idaho — Graduating high school seniors who applied for funding from the Idaho LAUNCH program, check your mailboxes as Gov. Brad Little announced the final awards are heading to students.

The governor's office on Tuesday said 9,180 students will soon receive the grant, which covers 80%, up to $8,000 of the cost of enrollment. The program aims to ease the cost for graduating seniors to pursue a program after high school to help place them in an "in-demand job."

The office also said the program not only helps students get a job, but helps employers as well.

“With LAUNCH, Idaho is taking extraordinary steps to prepare our young people for a lifetime of prosperity,” Little said in a news release. “This initiative, alongside our historic investments in educating Idaho students from kindergarten to career, is a clear example of the incredible things we can achieve when we put the needs of Idahoans first. Our work has established Idaho as one of the most forward-thinking states in the nation for workforce development and post-secondary education.

The governor's office reports 2,604 of the 9,180 students were planning to enter a career in healthcare.

Graduating seniors who received an award must go to the Scholarship Idaho website to accept the grant.

“I encourage students to regularly check Scholarship Idaho as we continue to send final awards over the coming weeks,” said Wendi Secrist, Director of the Workforce Development Council, in a news release. 

The governor's office provided a top-seven list of what careers the students were most interested in pursuing:

  • Health Occupations – 2,604
  • Engineering – 860
  • Agriculture and Food Industries – 310
  • Automotive Technicians – 475
  • Welding – 349
  • Teaching – 654
  • Business Administration – 488
