Lisa Roberts will become the first female superintendent of the Boise School District when she starts her tenure on July 1.

BOISE, Idaho — The Boise School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday voted unanimously to approve Lisa Roberts' appointment as the new superintendent, a news release said.

Roberts, who served as deputy superintendent for five years, will start her tenure on July 1. The current Boise School District Superintendent, Coby Dennis, is set to retire on June 30.

"As a well-respected, well-qualified and deeply committed educational leader, Lisa Roberts has played an instrumental role in building on the successes of our public schools," Boise School Board President Dave Wagers said.

Roberts is the first female superintendent of the Boise School District, according to the district.

"She brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge, having served in various leadership positions in the District during her 31-year career. Her vision and passion for education are clearly evident," Wagers said. "She demonstrates daily that she cares about the success and well-being of our students, staff and families. We are confident that under her leadership, Boise Schools will continue to succeed and provide the best possible education to our students."
