College of Western Idaho plans Nampa campus expansion

The College of Western Idaho continues to grow, and has even more growth already in mind. In just seven years, the college has grown to serve more than 20,000 students a year and is aiming to serve thousands more soon.

CWI unveiled their Nampa campus development plan entitled "Vision 2040" Wednesday. Included in the plan is a state of the art health science building and student success center aimed at centralizing student services.

The outlined 80,000 square foot health science building is focused on getting CWI students jobs in the quickly growing medical field in the Treasure Valley. The overall goal of the new expansion though is to create a comprehensive campus with a true campus environment for a growing student body.

CWI president Bert Glandon says the college is excited to keep growing and is focused on continuing to be affordable and innovative.

"We're brand new, we're only five six years old," said Glandon. "We can turn on a dime, we have a leadership team, we have a faculty that's passionate, dedicated, and committed to figuring out how to institute innovation and education and how to provide student success at all levels."

The college will begin raising funds for the Nampa campus expansion soon, and hopes to have a new building up in the next five years.

CWI plans on holding a meeting about their Boise campus plans in early August.
