North Idaho College board calls special meeting in response to college president’s lawsuit

A 24-hour notice was sent out just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday and there is just one key item on the agenda.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — A special meeting has been called on Wednesday for the North Idaho College Board members. It is not clear why the meeting was called, but there is speculation that it was called in response to the school president suing the college.

A 24-hour notice was sent out just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday and there is just one key item on the agenda. It states new business with action to grant authority to the board chair to direct litigation at the request of council.

In President Nick Swaynes lawsuit against North Idaho College, he is asking the court to compel the college to turn over an investigative report that has been at the center of debate amongst the board of trustees.

According to our news partners at the Coeur d’Alene Press, that petition was filed on November 17 alleging that NIC violated Idaho Public Record laws by denying Swaynes request for a copy of the report. Swayne says the report involves allegations against him by another employee at the college.

A judge has set a hearing in the case for December 15th.

It appears the college board and counsel have been aware of a potential lawsuit since March.

Wednesday’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. and because it’s a special business meeting there won’t be any public comments taken.
