Thousands of children visit Boise State for annual Engineering and Science Festival

Boise State staff hope that the event will encourage children to pursue STEM careers that are in high demand across Idaho.

BOISE, Idaho — It’s been a busy afternoon for young students visiting Boise State University today.

It's Boise State’s 15th annual Engineering and Science Festival.

The event is free, with more than 70 activities and demonstrations, such as watching liquid nitrogen volcanos erupt, riding Segways, virtual reality demos.

Leandra Aburusa with BSU says through this event she wants kids to learn that stem can be a lot of fun.

"We are hoping that the kids who come here today are going to be inspired to pursue science, engineering, and other STEM careers, there is a big demand for it, for engineering and stem careers here in Idaho and there’s not enough people going into those fields, so we hope that these kids will have fun and continue on with it,” she said.

Aburusa estimates thousands of children came through the festival today.

Last year as many as 8,000 children attended.
