KENMORE, Wash. - Someone took a ghost bike that was part of a memorial for a Washington teen killed in an accident in March.
On March 18th at 61st Avenue Northeast and Northeast 190th Street in Kenmore, 19-year-old Caleb Shoop was on his bike in the crosswalk when he was hit by a truck. Shoop later died at the hospital.
Glen Buhlmann with Kirkland Greenways said Shoop's family and friends set up a ghost bike as a way to send a message.
"It is a reminder to everybody. Whether you are walking, whether you are biking, whether you are driving, we just all need to be careful," said Buhlmann.
Last week, Shoop's parents put up the ghost bike near the crosswalk where their son died. His friends decorated the bike as a way to remember him before they headed off to college. A few days ago, they noticed the bike was gone.
"They were heartbroken. They had put a lot of their pain and their effort and their tears into this as a memorial to Caleb," said Buhlmann.
Kenmore's city manager said the city did not take down the ghost bike.
