BOISE, Idaho — The Ada County Highway District is holding an open house next week to hear from the public on the needs of bicyclists and pedestrians near the Whitewater and Veterans Memorial Park neighborhoods.
“I think it's always great to get public insight into more changes, especially when it's concerning our roads,” Sean Tierney, who rides his bike on a daily basis, said.
The open house is scheduled for June 20 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
“We are trying to update our bike and pedestrian plan and this area is for the Whitewater and Veterans Memorial Park neighborhood,” Natalie Shaver, a spokesperson for the Ada County Highway District, said.
The open house will allow people who live and work in the area to tell ACHD what they would like to see happen in their neighborhoods.
“What we do during this is we go to the public and we give them a survey and we ask them to tell us what they would like to see be done in their neighborhood,” Shaver said. “So, if they would like to see bike lanes, if they'd like to see sidewalks, where they would like to see these things and we collect that data and we update our plan.”
It's also an opportunity for people to speak with those who are behind the projects and voice their questions or concerns.
“We want to make sure that the improvements we make are the improvements the public would like to see, things that they see are necessary because they're the users and they're the taxpayers so we want to make sure we're using their dollars in ways that they see a benefit for,” Shaver said.
Anyone who can’t attend the open house, can also fill out an online survey.
The deadline to fill out that survey is July 5.
