Allumbaugh House helps drug addicts turn around

This week KTVB has been highlighting the drug problem in the Treasure Valley. To wrap up our series we sit down with a woman behind the Allumbaugh House in Boise.

The Allumbaugh House is a medically-monitored detoxification center in Boise that also provides mental health services for those in crisis.

Charlotte Lanier had a big part in the creation of the Allumbaugh House. Her son, Jack, died from a heroin overdose in 2004. Since then, she has been passionate about helping people struggling with addiction. Lanier says complaining about drug abuse won't fix it.

"When a person is in the grip of it they don't have control over their judgment and they need help and they need compassion and this community needs to come together to show compassion for those who are out there suffering," said Laneir.

The Allumbaugh House has been open for seven years this month. It has helped 945 people in the last year.

Patients stay for six days and case managers help with next steps. Several agencies, and private donations, fund the non-profit.
