NAMPA — We've got an alert to tell you about. If you're planning on heading out to Lake Lowell this holiday weekend, you'll want to stay out of the water or make some other plans.
The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality is urging everyone to stay out of the water near the Lower Dam Recreation Area beach because of elevated E. coli levels.
High levels of E. coli were found in this same area earlier this month.
Signs will be posted around the beach about the bacteria.
E. coli is commonly found in the intestines and the bodily waste of animals and humans.
Consuming contaminated water can cause illness in people and pets.
The DEQ will conduct additional testing at the lake to determine the extent and source of the E. coli.
