BOISE, Idaho — The Boise Police Department wants you to talk to your kids about vaping, even if you don't think they are doing it.
BPD says that about two thirds of middle and high schoolers didn't think vapes contain the same product as cigarettes, which is nicotine.
They also say vape products can be very easy to hide.
Some sweatshirts even come equipped to easily hook-up vapes so kids can vape in class or during other activities without being noticed.
Some of these devices look just like USB drives, other electronic gadgets or even inhalers.
Now, BPD is telling you not to panic over this.
Instead, they want to share some tips for you on how you can approach you kids about it.
They say to share the facts with your kids.
And tell them you are there to answer any questions they may have.
Another tip -- help them find ways to say no.
And Boise police want to remind you that kids don't always know how to do that. So take time to have your child think of specific ways to say no.
And this one is important -- if you find out that your kid is vaping do not yell at them. They say to stay calm and ask them questions.
Why are they doing it?
Is it peer pressure?
Is it curiosity or lack of knowledge about vapes?
Then, come up with a plan on how you can help them quit.
