A FIRE WEATHER WARNING has also been issued for Sunday evening for eastern Oregon, the Payette National Forest, the Owyhee Mountains, and parts of the Magic Valley for scattered thunderstorms that could produce abundant lightning and gusty winds but little to no precipitation.

IMPACT |  Highs will cool a few degrees into Monday with highs in the  upper 90s but the dangerously hot weather will return. At their peak on Wednesday, temperatures will be near 105° again.

NEED | How to stay safe in these scorching temperatures:

  • Find shade and air conditioned spaces as often as possible
  • Stay hydrated: drink water before you feel thirsty!
    • Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee, and carbonated soft drinks, which can contribute to dehydration
  • Never leave pets or children unattended in parked vehicles
  • Wear lightweight, loose clothing
  • Limit outdoor activities, especially from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Wear sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater if spending any time outdoors
  • Never allow pets to walk on hot pavement as it can burn their paws; opt for grassy or shaded areas instead

How to do your part to prevent wildfires:

  • Avoid driving on dry grassy areas; stay on marked roads
  • Double-check trailer hitches and campers for dragging or low-hanging chains
  • Ensure that campfires are dead out and cold to the touch before leaving your campsite
  • Only burn in designated areas and never leave a fire unattended
