2 found dead after mobile home fire in Mountain Home

MOUNTAIN HOME -- Two people were found dead inside a burning mobile home in Mountain Home early Monday morning.

Firefighters called out to the residence off of Northwest Lancaster at 1:56 a.m. arrived to find it fully engulfed. The bodies of a man and woman were discovered in a back bedroom after the flames had been extinguished.

Mountain Home Fire spokeswoman Melanie Broughton said investigators are still working to determine how the victims died.

Three children also lived in the mobile home, but were not there at the time of the fire, she said.

Both people lived in the mobile home, Broughton said, and there is "no indication that foul play was involved" in the deaths. The Mountain Home Fire Department, Elmore County Sheriff's Office, and the State Fire Marshall are working together on the investigation.

Mountain Home Police say the fire was caused by the careless use or disposal of a smoking material, and it started on the couch area in the living room.

"On behalf of the Mountain Home Fire Department we want to express our sincere condolences to the family," Fire Chief Mark Moore said in a statement. "We know and understand that this incident will forever change the lives of all involved, to include all emergency personnel who responded. We want to reach out in word and support to all the families involved in this tragedy, including our own Fire Department family, in an effort to provide comfort and confidence in those we serve."

The victims' names have not yet been released, but officials say they were both 33 years old.
