2 Boise grass fires

Boise Fire said there were no injuries or structure damage, but conditions are dry and people should be careful.

BOISE, Idaho — Two separate grass fires in Boise happened on Monday, June 24. According to the Boise Fire Department (BFD), no one was hurt but they are warning people that the drier conditions make it extremely easy for fires to start. One fire was started from a burn barrel that was blowing hot embers onto grass.

"It takes one small spark or hot ember to ignite a possible catastrophe. During hot and dry conditions, we strongly urge residents to avoid doing activities that create hot ash or embers; including burning weeds, using burn barrels, fire pits, and burn piles, etc. Please dispose of cigarette ash and ash from charcoal barbecues in a metal container. Do not put them in your garbage can," BFD stated.

Then at 2:25 p.m., BFD responded to another grass fire by S. Talon Ln. and W. Vallejo Rd. The fire was about one-and-a-half acres and grew to around five acres. Crews were able to extinguish it fairly quickly and then remained for hours controlling hotspots. There were also no injuries at this location. The fire was caused by a burn barrel.
