Two mortar rounds found in Caldwell, nearby homes evacuated

Caldwell Police said two mortar rounds were found by homeowners as they were cleaning Wednesday afternoon, forcing nearby homes to be evacuated.

CALDWELL, Idaho — Two mortar rounds were found by homeowners as they were cleaning Wednesday afternoon, forcing nearby homes to be evacuated, the Caldwell Police Department said. 

The Nampa Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene at at North Illinois Avenue and Monte Vista Drive and took possession of the mortar rounds. 

Caldwell Police said there is "no danger to the immediate area at this time." No arrests have been made.

Police are now clearing the scene, which is located near Sacajawea Elementary School.

The Caldwell Fire Department said Illinois Avenue on Canyon Hill is closed Wednesday afternoon.
