Fueling the fight: Boise catering company delivers meals for firefighters on the Durkee fireline

Boxing and unboxing, Kanak Attack is really attacking the catering business. It is providing over 1000 sack lunches per day.

BOISE, Idaho — While the fire burns our neighboring state, firefighters are burning their energy.

One Boise catering company is doing what they do best, bringing food for the firefighters on the front line.

Boxing and unboxing, Kanak Attack is really attacking the catering business.

"We're doing 1000 plus sack lunches every day here," said General Manager, Max Norman.

This time, it's not for a wedding or business event.

"It's much more last minute, and you have the elements to deal with," said Norman.

Norman said their team is firing up meals for crews fighting the Durkee Fire, working in both Boise and in the heat of the action in Eastern Oregon.

"For breakfast and dinner, Cisco is delivering us the product, and we keep it out there refrigerated, and they get to cook on-site there," he said. "Then we're delivering them the full truck of lunches and driving back an empty one every day."

Three meals a day, totaling 6000 calories, because Norman said crews burn through their energy fighting the fires.

It's one of the reasons the sack lunches can take so long, with roughly 15 different items going into each bag.

For him and his team, working overtime is worth it.

"Idaho and the surrounding states are so beautiful, and those guys are working their hardest to take care of the land that all of us love so much," he said. "These guys are doing everything they can to keep us safe, so we do what we can to support that too."

They have no plans of slowing down until the fire finally slows down.

"As long as they need, we are here to support them," he said.
