MERIDIAN, Idaho — Owyhee High School is featuring premiere high school basketball talent from across the West Coast in its annual "Pro Image Sports Holiday Classic" tournament.
The tournament features more than 40 teams in total. The event includes two varsity brackets split by school size, a JV bracket, and a separate bracket only for underclassmen.
Owyhee High School is hosting the large school bracket; Rocky Mountain High School is hosting the small school bracket. The event tipped off Thursday and lasts through Saturday.
The large bracket features a local headliner in Owyhee's Liam Campbell - a commit to USC. He is surrounded locally by Hillcrest’s Isaac Davis, who is committed to play at BYU, and Pocatello's Julian Bowie, who's choosing to play at Boise State.
"We want people to know we're gonna bring in talent. And we want them to be able to see that and see the level that those guys can compete at," Owyhee head coach Andy Harrington said. "And this year, we've been able to do that with some of the programs we brought in."
Campbell and the Storm will get the chance to compete with a pair of UCLA and Arizona commits - Eric Freeny (UCLA) and Carter Bryant (Arizona) - rostered on Corona-Centennial (CA). Additionally, a strong program in Salesian Prep (CA) further bolsters the field - they are expected to be one of the top teams in Northern California, according to Harrington.
"I think the amount of high-level players has never been done before in the state," Harrington said. "They're gonna be good."
