Idaho Medal of Honor

Three Idaho police officers - including one who died in the line of duty - will be recognized with Idaho Medals of Honor this week.

The medal is the state's highest honor for law enforcement officers. Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said in a prepared statement that the men all performed courageously in the name of public safety.

The City of Coeur d'Alene wants to build a waterfall memorial for Sgt. Greg Moore at McEuen Park. Sgt. Moore was shot and killed in the line of duty on May 5, 2015.

One of the recipients, Sgt. Greg Moore with the Coeur d'Alene Police Department, was shot and killed on May 5, 2015 after attempting to stop a suspicious man in an area where several car break-ins had been reported.

The other two recipients, Chief Deputy Mike Barclay and Sgt. Kyle Moore, both with the Elmore County Sheriff's Office, were involved in a high-speed pursuit that began near Hammett when the suspect abandoned his vehicle and pointed a gun at passing motorists and then the officers. Both officers fired at the man, who later died.

The medals will be awarded Wednesday at the Statehouse.
