Boise State University will gain two new undergraduate degree programs and University of Idaho will gain one graduate program, along with a healthcare school.

BOISE, Idaho — While in their regular Board meeting, the Idaho State Board of Education approved three new degree programs and a second healthcare-related school for the Gem State.

Boise State University will gain two new undergraduate degree programs and University of Idaho will gain one graduate program. The new programs are:

  • Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience - Boise State University
  • Online Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Applied Science in Public Service Leadership - Boise State University
  • Online Master of Science in Gerontology - University of Idaho

The University of Idaho will become the second university in Idaho to offer healthcare programs, after the Board approved their request on Thursday. The university will establish a School of Health and Medical Professions, offering programs in medicine, clinical medicine, and nursing.

The goal of adding the healthcare programs to the University of Idaho is to meet the needs of healthcare in northern Idaho.

Currently, Idaho State University currently operates the College of Health and the College of Pharmacy within their Division of Health Sciences. ISU President Robert Wagner will collaborate with U of I to establish a physician assistant program in northern Idaho.

While also at their Board meeting, the board recognized College of Eastern Idaho (CEI) President Dr. Rick Aman , Board Member Dr. David Hall, and Executive Director Matt Freeman. All three will be leaving their positions effective June 30.

"Dr. Aman is CEI's first president, and he led the efforts to launch Idaho's fourth community college in 2017," State Board President Dr. Linda Clark said. "His outstanding leadership helped make CEI a quick success and I congratulate him on a job well done."

Dr. Aman's replacement will be selected by the CEI Board, and Governor Brad Little will appoint Hall and Freeman's replacements.

"Dr. Hill and Mr. Freeman both served the State Board Education, and the people of Idaho with distinction," Board President Clark said. "We will miss Dr. Hill's expertise and perspective, and Mr. Freeman's leadership of the Board office and staff. I am honored to have worked with both of them. They have both made significant contributions to public education in Idaho."
