JEROME COUNTY, Idaho — A woman is dead after she was rear-ended by a semi-tractor on Interstate 84 in Jerome County early Tuesday morning.
Idaho State Police said the crash happened around 4:53 a.m. Tuesday on westbound I-84 when a 2022 Volvo semi-tractor driven by a 63-year-old man from Virginia rear-ended a blue 2006 Honda Pilot that had broken down on the side of the interstate. The truck then went sideways into the "jersey barrier."
Police said the Honda Pilot, driven by a 33-year-old woman from Twin Falls, broke down and had its hazard lights on. The woman died at the scene, according to ISP. She was wearing a seatbelt.
The Virginia man was wearing a seatbelt and was not transported to an area hospital. Idaho State Police said the man was arrested on probable cause for vehicular manslaughter and was booked into the Jerome County Jail.
ISP said eastbound lanes were closed for around six hours Tuesday to allow first responders to assist those involved.
At the time of publication, ISP said westbound lanes of I-84 are still closed. To receive updates on the road closure, visit the Idaho Department of Transportation's 511 here.
