73rd annual Ski Swap brings winter hype to Expo Idaho

Admission to the event is $5. On Sunday, admission can be free, with a donation of two canned food items.

BOISE, Idaho — Colder temperatures have settled into the Treasure Valley, with a bit of frost and snow visible in the hills above. Ski season is approaching, and what better way to prepare than to get the right equipment?

The 73rd annual Ski Swap, hosted by Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation, or BBSEF, will kick off on Friday at 10 a.m.

This major fundraising event for BBSEF is being held at Expo Idaho and is sponsored by Saint Alphonsus.

BBSEF head coach Nick Sabin said there's something for everyone.

"It's basically almost like a garage sale. People can bring their stuff in, sell it, and BBSEF takes 25% of that, the rest goes back to the seller, and then they're more than welcome to see if they can't come find a deal as well." Sabin said.

That 25% Sabin talked about goes to help cover operation costs for the foundation and offer snow sports to athletes at a lower cost.

Admission to the event is $5 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday - however, on Sunday, you can gain free admission with a donation of two canned food items, being donated to the Boise Rescue Mission. Admission is free for those under 15 years old.

Ski Swap sale hours:

  • Friday, Nov. 1, 10 a.m. -10 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 2, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov. 3, 10 a.m.- 3 p.m.

You can register your items here if you want to sell your items at the swap.

There are dedicated drop-off times for items being sold, which are listed below:

  • Friday, Nov. 1, 10:00 am—9:00 pm

Over 1,700 volunteer hours go into the event, with most Ski Swap volunteers being current or past BBSEF families, according to a news release. Bogus Basin Ski Patrol and Bogus Basin Ski Club also pitch in.

BBSEF's mission is to "provide access to competitive mountain sports programs for the youth of the Treasure Valley".
