BOISE, Idaho — The Ada County Highway District is reaching out to the community to help give some life to their fleet of snowplows.
ACHD on Thursday announced its first-ever 'Name a Plow' contest, giving Idaho residents an opportunity to submit names for three snowplows that will be in service this winter.
Submissions are open to Ada County residents who are over the age of 18, and group submissions are allowed, but must include a contact person. ACHD said an adult may also submit a name on behalf of a child.
Name submissions will be accepted through Wednesday, Dec. 6. After the submission period, the public will get the chance to vote on the final names for the three plows. Voting for the names will begin Friday, Dec. 8.
Ada County Highway District employees will have the opportunity to name a fourth plow as well, Tuesday's announcement said. The winners will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
Names with the most votes will be added to the snowplow blades. ACHD said the winning submitters receive $100 gift cards and will be contacted by phone or email on Dec. 13.
Names provided should be appropriate and under 15 characters, so it fits on the plow blade. If the same name gets submitted many times, the first entry will be the one considered, ACHD continued.
