'Unusual activity' prompts Ada County Dispatch to intentionally take down computer aided system

Authorities said dispatch is still taking 911 and non-emergency calls as lines are unaffected.
The Ada Registry of Vulnerable Population allows residents to voluntarily put information about a vulnerable family member that first responders can use.

BOISE, Idaho — The Ada County Computer Aided Dispatch was intentionally taken down after dispatch officials noticed "unusual activity." But, 911 and non-emergency dispatch will not be affected.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office said on Monday, the unusual activity had been detected in their "Emergency Communications" on July 13. After officials learned of it, they began investigating with assistance from "nationally recognized third-party cybersecurity and data forensics consultants to assist us."

The system was taken down as a precautionary measure, and dispatch is working on backup systems to allow it to be safely restored.

"Again, 911 and non-emergency call taking, law enforcement, fire and medical emergency resources continue to operate," the Ada County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
