IDAHO, USA — A fierce winter storm hit eastern Idaho over the weekend, starting on Feb. 28, leaving Idaho Power working around the clock to restore service to nearly 25,000 customers in the area. According to the company, crews are still working around the clock to restore power to around 1,500 more.
"Crews have restored power to nearly 25,000 customers over the past 24 hours and are still working to restore over 500 active outages impacting nearly 5,000. We have additional crews working through the night, but if your power is currently out, please make a plan to stay safe should it remain out overnight," the company stated Saturday evening on social media.
As of Sunday morning, Idaho Power said it was grateful for the community's support for crews as they restored power. The company also reminded people to let them know immediately if there was an outage.
Heavy snow that accumulated quickly snapped tree branches and downed power lines all over the eastern part of the state. Over the weekend, several overnight warming shelters were opened in Power, Bingham and Bannock Counties.
