BOISE, Idaho — In the panhandle of the state sits a lake producing more rainbow trout over 20 pounds than anywhere else in the world, Idaho Fish and Game said. That's Lake Pend Oreille and the fishing there is plentiful.
With these big fish come big research demands, and Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) is inviting anglers to assist with their Angler Science Program, which helps the department with the trophy rainbow trout fishery.
The Lake Pend Oreille Angler Science Program is asking anglers to fill out a logbook during an upcoming derby, hosted Nov. 18-26 - which is when the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club is hosting its Thanksgiving Derby. Logbooks are due back by Dec. 10, and there will be a raffle for prizes.
Some prizes include:
- Yeti Tundra 45 coolers
- Bubba electric filet knives
- Work Sharp electric knife sharpeners
- Custom Yeti 20-ounce tumblers
- Custom trucker hats and beanies
Along with the log book, IDFG is conducting a tagging study and ask that anglers report the number on the tag for the fish they catch.
Some of the tags even have cash values associated with them, so keep your eyes peeled for details on the tag.
