EAGLE, Idaho — Along Highway 55 sits growing community, Avimor.
The 23,000-acre community includes 500 homes, and near those homes some residents complained after seeing scattered building materials, along with tires.
“The material consists of dimensional lumber from prior construction projects, wall board, and also some tires and it's in greater amount of than 300 cubic yards, which is a requirement that we have,” said Kevin Ryan, Department of Environmental Quality.
The Central District Health Department became aware of the construction yard two months ago and is leading the investigation, according to Ryan.
They took some photographs and sent a letter of notice of violation to Avimor requesting that they clean it up in accordance to the rules, Ryan said.
KTVB reached out to Avimor about the contents of the yard, they say neighbors should not be concerned.
“It’s lumber that's out here and drywall and it gets ground up every so often and it's put to another use,” said Avimor’s Managing Partner Dan Richter. “There were some railroad ties, which shouldn’t be here and some other things that were dumped here by different people, not by us. so we cleaned those up and we agreed that we'll move it from here to another location,” Richter said.
He says the items will be recycled and ground into cattle bedding.
“When it's no longer used as cattle bedding it's put in farmers fields to fertilize and rejuvenate the soils,” Richter said.
