City of Nampa opens applications for soon-to-be-vacant council seat

District 3 residents interested in the position must apply by Sunday, Dec. 10. The appointed resident will serve on Nampa City Council through the end of 2025.

BOISE, Idaho — Nampa is seeking a resident of District 3 to fill the soon-to-be vacant council seat and represent their community.

The City of Nampa on Tuesday announced it has opened applications for the District 3 council seat, which was left vacant because of the election earlier in November.

City Councilmember Natalie Jangula previously held the seat, but due to a 2020 bill requiring cities with a population over 100,000 to redistrict their city, Jangula needed to run for the district she now lives in, which is District 2. She won the election and will serve as District 2's councilmember, leaving the District 3 seat vacant.

The next time the seat is up for election is during the November 2025 cycle, according to the City of Nampa. With permission from the council, a District 3 resident will be appointed to hold the seat.

The city said District 3 residents interested in the position must send a resume and a letter outlining their qualifications to the mayor's office via email or to their physical address. The mayor and the city council will interview applicants who make it to the final selection.

"Applicants who have been actively engaged in our community and have previously participated in local boards, commissions or nonprofits are strongly encouraged to apply," Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling said. "To effectively serve the citizens of Nampa, it is critical candidates have an understanding of how local government works."

The appointed resident will serve District 3 until the end of 2025.

Residents wanting to find which district they live in can visit the city's website. For further information and questions about the District 3 seat, the city said to call the mayor's office at (208) 468-5401.
