BOISE, Idaho — Ridge to Rivers has reported that the wet April weather has created muddy conditions in the Boise Foothills, according to a news release.
The Ridge to Rivers Trail System is prone to weather related damage and has heavy usage. The combination of these two factors can lead to long term damage to both the trail and the ecosystem surrounding it, the news release stated.
This week, Ridge to Rivers is asking recreationalists to find alternative paths this week, like the Boise River Greenbelt or pathways near your local park.
"The forecast calls for a fairly sizeable spring storms over the next few days," said Ridge to Rivers Trail Manager David Gordon, "We know everyone is excited to get outside after a long winter, but these conditions unfortunately don't mix well with trail use. Please be prepared to give the trails a break during this rain; protecting them now will help ensure they're in good shape later this spring and summer."
For the most up-to-date information about trails and their conditions, check the Ridge to Rivers interactive map. Ridge to Rivers reports are also frequently posted on Facebook, the news release said.
As a reminder, Ridge to Rivers points out that many of these trails are wildland-urban interface, meaning these trails are home to both wildlife and recreationalists. It is normal to see wildlife on these trails.
There have been a few coyote sightings this season, and Ridge to Rivers reminds that spring is denning season for coyotes. Do not approach the coyotes or any other wildlife while on the trail, keep dogs leashed, and respect the environment of the trails.
