CASCADE, Idaho — A man died in an avalanche that happened in the mountain's northwest of Cascade near Lookout Peak. According to the Payette Avalanche Center two people were snow biking on Sunday, Dec. 15 when they triggered an avalanche that fully buried one of the riders.
"The slide was reported to be relatively small, but the rider was carried into a terrain trap and buried deeply. He was found with an avalanche beacon and extricated, but did not survive," the center stated.
The center said the avalanche happened just south of the Payette Avalanche Center forecast area. The center added that forecasters will visit the site on Monday to investigate.
