Idaho average gas price drops another 12 cents, Boise average down 7 cents

For a 12th consecutive week, GasBuddy calculated another drop in the Gem State's average cost for fuel.

BOISE, Idaho — Gasoline prices dropped an average of 7 cents in Boise and 12 cents for the state since last Monday's report from GasBuddy

Boise gas stations average a price tag of $3.44 per gallon for unleaded gasoline, according to GasBuddy data.

Of the surveyed 216 stations in Boise, prices are roughly 30 cents per gallon less than one month ago and 38 cents per gallon less than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy reports, the cheapest station in Boise was at $3.19 per gallon on Monday, while the most expensive was $4.09 per gallon, a difference of 90 cents per gallon. As for the state average, the lowest price was $2.77 per gallon while the highest price was $4.09 per gallon, a difference of $1.32 per gallon.

The national average cost for unleaded gasoline fell over 9 cents per gallon since last week, bringing the national average price to $3.11 per gallon, GasBuddy reported. The updated national average price for gasoline was down just over 23 cents per gallon from one month ago and 10 cents less than a year ago. This is according to GasBuddy's data collected from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

The national average price for diesel fuel also fell. Diesel gas dropped 8 cents since last Monday, averaging at $4.10 per gallon.

"For the 12th straight week, or three straight months, the national average has continued to decline, now at its lowest level of 2023 heading into the prime of the holiday season as oil prices continue to struggle amidst cooling demand," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

"With nearly 80,000 gas stations in the U.S. now priced below $3 per gallon, and 23 states also seeing average prices of $2.99 or less, motorists are getting substantial relief at the pump in time for the holidays. The trend is likely to continue in most states this week, while the national average could soon fall below $3.05 per gallon, the lowest since 2021. The good news may continue into 2024, with GasBuddy's annual Fuel Outlook being released in just a few weeks."
