BOISE COUNTY, Idaho — A body found in a remote area off of Bogus Basin Road belongs to a Mountain Home man who went missing during a hike last month, authorities have confirmed.
Kyle Crowden, 27, set off on a hike of the Dry Creek Trail on Feb. 9, but never returned. His car was found parked at the trailhead. Search crews scoured the area, but were hindered by heavy snow and freezing temperatures.
Human remains were discovered partly obscured by trees and brush about 30 feet down a ravine off of the trail Wednesday night by a shed hunter. The man was able to lead authorities back to the site the following day.
On Friday, Boise County Chief Deputy Coroner Mike Johnson confirmed to KTVB that the body was Crowden's. The area where he was found was about 4,000 feet into Boise County across the Ada County line, he said.
An autopsy revealed no injuries or signs of foul play, and the coroner's office has not yet released an official cause of death. Toxicology tests have been scheduled, but could take several weeks, Johnson said.
Crowden was described as an experienced hiker, but had planned on a short day hike and not brought supplies or equipment to spend a significant amount of time outdoors in the bitterly cold weather. Johnson said Crowden likely died within 24 to 48 hours of setting off on the hike.
