Scholarships from Bogus Basin helps students hit the slopes

"We believe that every child in the Treasure Valley should be able to experience the wonderful world of winter sports," Bogus Basin said.

BOISE, Idaho — Bogus Basin announced today that they will be awarding $18,300 to local schools in the Treasure Valley to help fund classroom outings to the ski resort.

The scholarship will help fund 1,074 elementary and high school students to participate in hitting the slopes at Bogus Basin. It will fund a total of 22 class outings during the 2023-24 ski season, said Bogus Basin

"We believe that every child in the Treasure Valley should be able to experience the wonderful world of winter sports. Behind the scenes at Bogus Basin, we are working to remove barriers that prevent youth in our community from reaching this goal," Susan Saad, Director, Community & Customer Relations said.

Bogus Basin said scholarship recipients from all around the Treasure Valley were selected through an application process, helping to ensure that the support reaches those who will benefit the most. The scholarships can be used towards the cost of school bus transportation, equipment rentals, lift tickets and/or a 90-minute group lesson.

Two schools will be making their inaugural trips up to the ski resort, Union School in Nampa and Future Public School in Garden City.

"No one forgets the excitement of trying skiing or snowboarding for the very first time. As a community mountain, Bogus Basin will always continue to underwrite programs that help make this experience possible for local youth." Colette Wright, Group Sales & Events Coordinator said.

There are two long-running programs at Bogus Basin that these students will be able to participate in - Life Sports and School Nights. These programs help introduce kids to the basics of skiing and snowboarding. Last ski season, 5,555 students participated in the programs, said Bogus Basin.
