BOISE, Idaho — The cell phone waiting lot for the BOI Airport will be moving, starting Oct. 15.

According to the Boise Airport, the new cell phone lot will be in a different, much larger area, with individual stalls. With the new lot, there will be no more pulling forward as other cars leave.

The new lot is adjacent to the Boise Airport Economy/Shuttle lot, and has its own entrance, located at 2950 South Curtis Road in Boise.

It will remain free to use and it's just about a 5-7 minute drive from the terminal, an airport spokesperson said.

With the massive increase in growth in the Treasure Valley, the previous cell phone waiting area was insufficient for what the airport currently sees. The previous lot would cause congestion, sometimes even blocking access to parking facilities. It even impacted safety for motorists.

The airport says the new lot can handle more than three times as many cars as the previous waiting area, and has room to grow if need be.

The cellphone waiting lot as we know it will close Monday, Oct. 14 after the last flight arrives.

Those looking to pick up arriving passengers after that date can use the new lot starting on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

The Boise Airport has provided driving instructions for those driving to the airport:

Eastbound directions (coming from west Boise, Meridian, Canyon County, etc):

  • Take I-84 E to exit 52 Orchard St.
  • Turn right on N Orchard St.
  •  Turn right on W Victory Rd.
  •  Follow W Victory Rd to Curtis Rd, turn right.

Westbound directions (coming from east Boise, southeast Boise, Elmore County, etc.):

  • Take I-84 W to exit 52 Orchard St.
  • Turn left on N Orchard St to cross the interstate.
  • Turn right on W Victory Rd.
  • Follow W Victory Rd to Curtis Rd, turn right.

In May 2018, the Boise Airport initially proposed updating the waiting lot, due to an increase in traffic then. It's taken nearly six years, but the new lot will provide more space.
