Boise Bench dolls sure to scare up good times on Halloween

This is the ninth year the Boise Bench Haunted Zombie Toyland is welcoming trick-or-treaters to check out the creepy dolls and toys.

BOISE, Idaho — A Boise Bench family is opening their back yard for some frightening sights this Hallows Eve.

The event is called the Boise Bench Annual Haunted Zombie Toyland and free for all to attend.

Amy Pence-Brown and her family have been dolling up their yard with creepy toys for the last nine years.

The family started displaying the dolls after they realized that many in their neighborhood weren’t participating or leaving the neighborhood for trick-or-treating.

"Nobody was staying in our neighborhood for Halloween. Our own kids, no lights would be on. We felt like we had to leave the neighborhood, and we really wanted to create something that kept people here, that brought people to the neighborhood. And it really worked," Pence-Brown said.

Most of the toys and dolls are thrifted or donated by friends and neighbors, then Pence-Brown and her kids gore up the dolls for Halloween night.

"We add new things every year, and my husband is really into making them move, so he's kind of like the animatronic expert. So there's one whose head spins around that's pretty creepy. People love that one. There's one that debuted last year in which it's a doll that's sort of vomiting into a cauldron neon green liquid," said Pence-Brown.

There are about 280 to 300 dolls decked out in Pence-Brown’s backyard.

You can check the spooky showcase from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 2029 S. Columbus Street Boise, Idaho 83705.

More details can be found on Pence-Brown’s Facebook event page.
